Have you fever felt anxious? Have you ever used alcohol to deal with social anxiety? You are not alone. Anxiety and problems with alcohol go hand in hand. We drink to take the ‘edge’ off and get through social situations, but the booze just makes everything worse. You may have even experienced a full-blown panic attack. Veronica suffered from extreme anxiety and regular panic attacks throughout her drinking. In this episode, Chip and Veronica look at the relationship between alcohol and anxiety, how getting sober will change it and give you their strategies for dealing with anxiety when it strikes.

This relates to episode 52 and isn’t really a question it’s more a comment. You asked how come the British culture (and by way of migration, the American and Australian cultures) is a heavy drinking one vs continental Europe. And my suggestion would be the weather. It is colder than other countries and especially in winter, is dark. Hence perhaps the desire to go to pubs or drink at home – to warm up, to do something to escape the grimness. Russia is also heavy drinking. Not sure about Icelandic countries. But it’s a hypothesis.
Thanks for the podcast, really interesting. And for episode 51. I listened to 51 and 52 back to back. As a mother with two youngish daughters it was interesting to hear thoughts on how to teach children to view their bodies and sexuality in a positive way. Thank you.
