about this episode

Can you imagine fighting for your sobriety? Turning your life around from being a homeless heroin addict who was in and out of jail?

Can you imagine climbing to the top of your career, having all the trappings that come with success, only to relapse and put it all in jeopardy?

Our guest this week, went through it all and had the courage to fight for his life and not be ruined by his addiction a second time.

He is interfaith spiritual director, behaviour coach and host of The One You Feed podcast, Eric Zimmer.

He helps clients wrestling with their spirituality to navigate their path, no matter which religion – or lack of religion – they’re connected to.

We talk about his entire journey, from getting addicted to drugs and alcohol, to getting sober at 24, his return to drinking 8 years later, despite the outward success, to his last 15 years of sobriety and his podcast The One You Feed.

Here’s an excerpt from the episode that really stood out to me.

A lot of things happened at once, he was separated from his son, his son’s mother left him for his best friend in AA, it all tipped him over the edge and he started drinking again.

But he thought “surely this time would be different”. He had a good job, he was exercising and made good decisions with his health and recovery, surely drinking again wouldn’t be as devastating this time. He was wrong.
