#277 – When No One Else Can See the Alcohol Problem but You With Julie Huck
An alcohol problem shows up on the inside long before it shows up on the outside. When people saw Julie, she looked like an attractive, busy mom who had everything: a great husband, a business and a great lifestyle. What they couldn’t see was how she felt on the inside, the shame, self-loathing and guilt from her drinking. Julie looked for help from a wellness professional who told her to drink organic wine as it was better for you and from a therapist who told her as she didn’t drink in secret, she couldn’t have a problem. But Julie knew she did. She finally stopped two years ago and has been on a journey of self-discovery ever since. Her husband now tells her she is way more fun sober. Julie is like so many women, quietly struggling and falling apart and using alcohol as a way to reward herself for just surviving the day. Her story will inspire you.

“I’m more fun not drinking than I was drinking.”
In this episode, Veronica sits down with Julie Huck, a mom and co-owner of a real estate business, who shares her journey of sobriety. She initially drank like her peer group, but after having children, drinking became a tool to relax and treat herself. She gradually started drinking more and more, reaching a point where she was blacking out and hiding her drinking. Julie realized she had a problem and sought help from a health coach and therapist, but their advice didn’t address the root cause. She eventually quit drinking and joined a program with Veronica, where she learned to uncover the underlying issues and live a big life sober. Julie’s life has expanded, and she is fully present for her family and herself.
Julie serves as the President of People and Culture for the Ed Huck Team, Keller Williams Realty. She graduated from Kent State University with a B.A. in Marketing & Communications. After college, she spent more than five years working in new home sales for various builders in Northeast Ohio until she met her Realtor husband, Ed, in her model home! In 2008 she became a licensed Realtor and joined her husband in selling residential real estate. After having their 2 sons, Ethan (11) and Connor (9), her work shifted from helping clients to focusing on building and growing The Ed Huck Team and coaching and training their team members. Currently, she is responsible for recruiting and hiring amazing people to join The Ed Huck Team and creating a workplace culture that allows our employees and team members to enjoy every day!
